News – Summer & Autumn 2017.
The art group’s weekend around Kent went well; we sketched around various sites on the Isle of Sheppey and finished with a curry supper in Rochester.
Later in the summer I spent a very successful day at a workshop run by the Pastel Society with John Tookey as the demonstrator and tutor. I then spent a week practising the techniques I picked up at the workshop while relaxing in Norfolk.
To round off the Summer and into Autumn I went to Croatia armed with watercolours, gouache and various inks, including a lovely walnut water-soluble ink and a painting stick whittled down to a nib-like end. This produces some very interesting effects. The tutor was Kevin Dean, who designed much of the marble decoration for the Sheikh Zayed Gran Mosque, Abu Dhabi. The holiday was a great success and I actually sold a painting to a Norwegian couple while working on the quayside in Rovinj. I was not alone either as another painter on the trip sold a small watercolour postcard. It was his first ever sale and his grin spread from ear to ear; his painting will appear on a wall in Las Vegas!
You can see various examples of my work in the gallery and many are for sale. The charity I am supporting in 2017-18 is Dementia UK and Admiral Nurses in particular. Please get in touch if you would like to help me raise funds for this important charity.
